Blue Ocean Strategy, a wish list for Graph Technologies
Instead of trying to predict the future for Graph
Technologies, here a wish list.
What is a Blue Ocean Strategy?
Professor Meir Russ refers, in his book called “Knowledge
Management Strategies for Business Development”[1],
to a Blue Ocean Strategy defined by W. Chan Kim
and Renée Mauborgne which states: “Here’s the strategy – create new markets.
Competing for old ones is a “yesterday” strategy. Create your own markets in
brand new territory – this is the blue ocean strategy.”[2] You can also read

I think the definition is clear enough. What does
it have to do with Graph Technologies and KM? In 1999 I played a game called “Homeworld”[4],
Homeworld is a real-time strategy game set in space. I was very impressed with the
way “navigation” was done, how everything was linked in such a user-friendly
manner, information available with a click of a button. I was surprised to see that
the game have new versions and looked at a few game clips from Gearbox Software.[5]
Current Graph Technology visualization is very limited,
now imagine it will be able to use such technology from Gearbox Software and
use if for graph visualization. I think it is time for innovative Information
Technology companies to start looking at the Gaming Industry for possible business
use case solutions.
Imagine having the same user interface with all
the information connected, a picture is worth a thousand words, 3D representation,
interactive user experience, the possibilities are endless in my opinion.
This a call to all Graph Technology companies out
there to start thinking about it. Who knows? Maybe I’m not the first person mentioning
this possibility, maybe it is a bad idea, but I think it will trigger other people
to think about graph visualization options to develop and maybe spark new ideas.
Here the link to the Blog. If there is such information technology out there, please comment here or go to the blog and send an email. Please
post any “Blue Ocean Strategies” you think will be applicable for Knowledge Management
and Graph Technologies.
