Get ready for GQL

Get ready for GQL…

Why do I include Graph Database technology in the Knowledge management space. Well, in my opinion this information technology will be able to create the links between tacit and explicit knowledge at such a scale to enable organisations to connect the dots on all levels. Graph Database visualization will enable a person to “look at the data”. This is the space of Knowledge Management where  “look in the data” refers more to Data Management and the governance thereof.

Organisations are actually using Knowledge Management to enable Data Management on the Information side. The “Trust” box has been ticked in the Data Management space. What now? What is missing?

How many times have you heard these words?

·       Does it make sense?

·        Please give me more context on the topic before we continue with the meeting?

·        Who can I speak to about this issue?

·        Oh, that is what you mean! I thought we are discussing something else.

·        I have no idea where to find the information you want. Maybe John will know?

·        Speak to Mary? But she left 2 years ago…

·        Do we have the skills available in the organisation to do the project?

·        I cannot remember what the action should be from the last meeting. What has changed?

·        Why are we re-inventing the wheel?

·        Do we have a high-level diagram showing what technology we are using and how it interacts with each other? Will Business understand it?

(If you have more examples, please email it.)

This is the part where Theory meets Practice. Graph Database Technologies will be an enablement tool (Knowledge Graphs) for Knowledge Management practices. Here GQL comes into play. Yes, there are great KM technology systems out there, Graph Technologies will take it a step further. GQL is the initiative to create a standard technical language for graph technology. Call it the SQL for Graphs. Add Graph Algorithms and Machine Learning to the mix and it gives more capabilities. This link shows the GQL initiative, the plan is to have the standard ready by 2023. Why is it important? The technology world needs a common language to make it easier for systems to talk to each other and also to make the “language” easier to understand. It is all about making sense of Information.
